I don’t know about you, but I’ve gotten a lot of events that say “we don’t pay speakers.”
And years ago, I would just think, “Dammit…you wouldn’t work for free so stop asking me.”

If you don’t understand that, then you’re screwed.
But the other thing you have to understand is…when people respond to you, it’s a reaction, not an ultimatum.

Side note: You need to know how to respond to common responses. If you don’t have templates in place, you’re losing gigs and you don’t even know it.
