Do the work nobody wants to do or is willing to do

Kobe Mamba Mentality book
“Kobe knew that to be the best you need a different approach from everyone else.”

Most damaging advice – “Do what you love”
-The things you love doing are things that rarely push your life forward
-You’ll give up when you get frustrated
-No response to outreach
-Restaurants saying NO
-Ad account shut down
-bank fraud on programs
-Instead, DO WHAT YOU MUST
“If you really want to be great at something, you have to truly care about it. If you want to be great in a particular area, you have to obsess over it. A lot of people say they want to be great, but they’re not willing to make the sacrifices necessary to achieve greatness. They have other concerns, whether important or not, and they spread themselves out. That’s totally fine. After all, greatness is not for everybody.” -Kobe Bryant

“Soon after he joined the Lakers, Metta World Peace came to the gym one day and found me working out. He was surprised to see me there. I said to him, ‘How do you think we get these championships?’ Metta responded by talking about how much talent we had on the roster. I cut him off, and told him, ‘Metta, winning rings isn’t easy. If you think because you’re here, because we have Pau and Lamar, that this is already a done deal? You and I are going to have problems.’ I let him know that I didn’t care what he did and what he got into off the court, but when he was at practice, when he was in the gym, I needed him to be present mentally. I needed him there ready to compete in every drill, to work every second, and to win every scrimmage.”
-obsessed with the work

Story: Restaurant door knocking
Story: Cold call/email
-Other entertainers didn’t do the work

Look at the 1%, not the status quo
“Kobe knew that to be the best you need a different approach from everyone else.”
-Study the extreme, the outliers
-How often do you hear Michael Jordan call Tiger Woods, Tom Brady, etc arrogant? Never. B/c the 1% understands the 1%
-the status quo calls them arrogant

It’s not about your visualization technique
“I knew what I wanted to accomplish, and I knew how much work it took to achieve those goals. I then put in the work and trusted in it.”
-It’s easy to visualize, it’s hard to work
-Writing an email saying you’re passionate required no effort
-Show what you’ve done
-The Third Door book: He told his story about hacking his way on Price Is Right

People don’t implement fast enough

“The message was clear: there was no time to waste, the moment was now, let’s go get ourselves a ring. His mindset was unmistakable – it was all about winning.”
-Information makes smart people believe they’re getting things done

Move towards a mission
“I worked and worked and worked. In my mind, it was never a matter of, ‘oh, no, I’ll never get another shot at this.’ I felt that my destiny was already written. I felt—I knew—that my future was undeniable and no one, not a person or a play, could derail it.”
-obsess over the mission
-obsess over the work and the results are inevitable
-If it’s important enough, you’ll do it whether you like it or hate it

Train your brain
-“I don’t feel like it”
-train with going to the gym
-train when waking up
-when you feel it, do it

BECOME ‘motivational quotes’
-don’t post them, BECOME them
“get comfortable being uncomfortable”

High level of pain is required to become successful
-sacrifice
